Becoming a Technician member (TechCIWEM)

The TechCIWEM qualification recognises the practical experience and knowledge you have gained in the water and environment sectors and acknowledges the skills that you have attained. This provides the assurances sought by employers, clients, peers and the public of that you are dedicated to forwarding water and environmental management and are keen to develop your skills further.

As an experienced practitioner with the knowledge and wish to drive change in the environment, CIWEM membership will broaden your knowledge, and expand your learning to support your career development.


Who can join?

If you have practical experience in a water or environmental discipline, which may have been gained through an apprenticeship or having completed a relevant course such as the NEBOSH environmental management course, then you are eligable for to apply for technician membership.

If you've successfully completed the NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management, then you're eligible to apply for Membership (MCIWEM).

Application requirements

To apply for TechCIWEM, you'll need to

  • Complete an online application form through MyCIWEM
  • Complete the 14 Mandatory Competences (please note that if you have completed the NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management, then you are not required to submit the mandatory competences)
  • Submit a copy of your most up-to-date CV
  • Submit a Career Overview report
  • Submit CPD record
  • Submit a copy of academic certificates and course breakdowns
  • Provide a list of the training you've completed
  • Have two sponsors who are chartered professionals (one of which must be chartered with CIWEM) who can review and sign-off your application. You will need to submit a signed letter from each of your sponsors alongside your application confirming they have done this

How much does a technician membership cost?

There is an application fee of £155 (£100 if your organisation is a corporate member).

The annual membership fee is £150.
