Who's Who at CIWEM Head Office

CIWEM employs a professional secretariat of around 20 staff at its office in Holborn, London. All staff can be contacted through the main telephone and fax numbers above or by e-mail at the addresses given below:


Nick Reeves - Executive Director
Responsible to Council for delivery of the Institution's Corporate Strategic Plan objectives and to the Boards of CIWEM Subsidiary Trading Companies (STCs) for the Company's Business Plan. Key objectives include sustainable growth, financial stability, a higher public profile, external relations; and effective and ethical governance using modern business practices.

Lorraine Poole
Lorraine Poole - Personal Assistant to Executive Director
Responsible for the management of the Executive Director's Office; support to the President, Council, Cabinet, the Boards of CIWEM Subsidiary Trading Companies (STCs) and ad hoc policy making groups; promotion and management of the Institution's Annual Dinner; co-ordination of Institution governance and Branch and Group liaison.

Paul Horton - Director of International Development
Responsible for International matters within the Institution and the further development of CIWEM worldwide. This involves working with CIWEM international branches, UK and overseas members; the European Water Association and other professional bodies; relevant trade organizations, who have an international dimension; building links with appropriate governmental and intergovernmental bodies; and influencing the development of EU policy.

Membership & Professional Development

Rosemary Butler - Director of Membership and Professional Development

Responsible for the management and maintenance of CIWEM membership and professional development, including admissions, education and training, professional interviews and dialogue with both established and potential members. Also responsible for managing the membership QA system, liaising with CIWEM Branches and Groups, Engineering Council (UK), Science Council, Society for the Environment.

Joanna Taylor  - Membership Co-ordinator (Professional Review Board)
Responsible for co-ordinating and arranging Professional Interviews for applicants, support to retired members, assisting with the promotion of membership and providing relevant membership information and material, and supporting the membership QA system.

Amy Townsend - Membership Co-ordinator (Business & Science)
Responsible for Business and Science, Industry Affiliate and Environmental Partner applications; issuing Membership Certificates; dealing with changes of status and membership enquiries; managing the Business and Academic Affiliate memberships. Also responsible for registering applicants with the Science Council and Society for the Environment.

Laura Brown - Membership Co-ordinator (Engineering Professional Board)
Responsible for all areas relating to the recruitment, processing and registration of engineering applications; dealing with changes of status and membership enquiries and the upkeep of engineering statistics. Also responsible for registering applicants with the Engineering Council (UK).

  Tom Owen- Professional Development Co-ordinator
Tom is responsible for all the Professional Development liaison and administrative activity within the department, ensuring links with students, delegates and partner organisations are maintained effectively. Tom deals with queries on all education and training matters when the director is away from the office or otherwise unavailable.

Finance and Administration

Natasha Thorneloe- Director of Finance and Administration
Responsible for the management of CIWEM's financial assets and the provision of an effective financial planning and management service to Council and the Executive Management Team. Responsible for the Institution's compliance with legal and statutory requirements, including health and safety, human resources, governance issues and risk analysis.

Emma Forbes
Emma Forbes - Accounts Coordinator
Responsible for the maintenance and co-ordination of day to day accounting functions and procedures within the Finance office.  Emma is also responsible for ensuring that purchasing procedures comply with the Institution’s best value and environmental policies, along with maintaining the health &safety and financial records.

Responsible for assisting the Finance Director in preparation of Managements Accounts and Branch Accounts.

Emily Poyser - Receptionist & Administration Assistant
The role is mainly reception duties which include answering the phone, greeting visitors, managing boardroom bookings and dealing with resource and maintenance requests.  Additionally the role includes processing of membership and event payments

Gary Pillans - IT Support and Development Manager
Responsible for implementation, maintenance and technical support of CIWEM's IT networks, website and management of the membership database. Ensures that the IT infrastructure is continually developed to support the changing needs of the organisation.

Justin Taberham - Director of Policy
Responsible for the development and management of all environmental policy, technical and international issues within the Institution. This includes policy documents, publications, conferences and events, support to the Expert Panels and Awards.

Alastair Chisholm - Policy Officer
Support for CIWEM's technical panels including the Air, Conservation and Recreation, Waste Management, Wastewater Management, Water Resources, and Water supply and Quality Panels. Preparation of consultation responses; production of policy position statements; and delivery of CIWEM’s Environmental Management System.
